NFL and MLB betting fans have come to realize that Brett Favre and Roger Clemens are a lot alike. Today, Roger Clemens pleaded not guilty to taking steroids. A claim he has stuck to since being found guilty by the US Congress a few years ago.
How Clemens compares to Favre, is that where Brett should hang up the boots, Clemens should just admit he is guilty. Over the last four years, both men have kept sports betting fans on the edge of their seats as neither will make a clear decision until they are ready. But what will happen to Roger Clemens when he finally admits his guilt?
As we have seen with various other cheats in the sport of baseball, Jose Canseco and Alex Rodriguez, the biggest penalty either has served is to their credibility. Now with the Yankees recent World Series win in 2009, Alex Rodriguez steroid use has all been but forgotten. Roger Clemens on the contrary, appears to be falling into the same category as Jose Canseco, a big talker who nobody believes.
The entire situation with Roger Clemens and the US Congress steroid scandal investigation is a lose – lose situation. For instance, if Clemens admits that he did take steroids, he will be less of a goat for Congress, since he will just be including himself in a long list of greats that cheated. Conversely, as long as he refuses to admit his infraction, he makes both himself and Congress look foolish.
Congress suffers either way, because Clemens has been out of the game for so long, that really nobody besides Congress actually cares if he cheated. What’s more, the MLB and MLBPA do not appear to be headed in the direction of altering the record books for players that cheated. Meaning to say, regardless of where Clemens stands, only the reputations of both he and Congress suffer.
